Salmon is healthful food!
Salmon contains a number of nutrients needed by our bodies:
Protein is needed to build and maintain all body cells. Proteins consist of various amino acids. The ones the body is unable to produce on its own have to be obtained from a diet that includes e.g. fish.
Omega 3 fatty acids prevent the development of cardiovascular diseases and slow down their progression. These fatty acids are also some of the key building blocks of our brains.
The functions of Vitamin A in the body are related to vision and the immune system. Vitamin A is also important to fertility and foetal development.
Vitamin D is essential for maintaining calcium balance and it is important for skeletal well-being. The body forms Vitamin D on its own only when the skin is exposed to sufficient sunlight. So, people living in northern latitudes must acquire most of their Vitamin D along with the nutriments they eat. Vitamin D is naturally abundant in fatty fish and fish liver.
Vitamin B12 is important for cell regeneration. Vitamin B12 deficiency may cause anaemia, pains, memory disorders and depression.
Selenium reinforces the body’s resistance, combating against harmful chemical reactions taking place in the body. Obtaining sufficient selenium promotes hair and nail growth and well-being.
